Breaking Generational Patterns

Breaking generational patterns doesn't mean blaming those who came before you or expecting yourself to parent perfectly. It means becoming aware of what your life experiences have taught you. Understanding what shaped your responses/reactions and then being able to decide what you will carry forward and what you will leave behind.

Have you become overly protective?

Do you react more strongly than you intended?

Do you worry about making the same mistakes your parents made?

Parenting can bring those unresolved experiences back to the surface.

You’ve worked hard to protect your child and give them a different childhood than the one you experienced. But what happens when your child experiences trauma, too?

That can bring up another layer of emotions: fear, guilt, anger, or helplessness. Now you have to navigate your child’s pain while managing what it brings up in you.

Do you find yourself asking:

“How do I set healthy boundaries while maintaining connection and empathy?"

“How do I break generational patterns without expecting myself to be perfect?”

“How can I be present and supportive for my child while also taking care of my own needs?"

Parenting can bring out parts of you that you didn't know were there. You love your child deeply and still feel overwhelmed, frustrated, anxious, or unsure of what to do. Maybe you're trying to parent differently than you were parented, but when things get intense, you find yourself falling back into patterns you promised yourself you wouldn't repeat.

“What’s a sustainable way to nurture my child and protect my own well-being?"

Maybe your child is struggling with big emotions, anxiety, difficult behaviors, or the effects of something they've experienced. Or perhaps, becoming a parent has brought up parts of your past that you haven't had the opportunity to work through.

Therapy for people who are ready to break generational patterns and create something different

What Can You Expect From Parent Support?

Parent support gives you a place to slow down, make sense of what's happening, and develop a more confident and intentional approach to parenting.

We will work collaboratively and focus on what you and yours have expereinced in the past as well as what is happening in your family right now. We will work in a space where you can ask questions, talk honestly about the difficult moments, and explore what isn't working without fear of judgement.

This is a space for you

This isn't about becoming a perfect parent because there is no perfect parent. This is about understanding your child while also understanding yourself—your emotions, your triggers, your experiences, and the behavior patterns you learned long before becoming a parent.

Together, we can explore how your own experiences may be influencing the way you respond. And what you can do to better align your parenting style with your beliefs.

-Understand your child's emotional and behavioral needs

-Navigate anxiety, big emotions, conflict, or difficult behaviors

 -Support emotional regulation and communication

You don’t have to lose yourself to be the parent your child needs.

Your child’s healing matters, and so does yours. Therapy creates space for both

You already have strengths as a parent. Therapy can help you build on those strengths, heal the patterns you don’t want to carry forward, and create the kind of connection and security that can shape generations to come.
